Inspired by the heroic cycle of Italian painter Salvatore Fiume (1915-97), titled Avventure, sventure e glorie dell'antica Perugia (Adventures, Misfortunes, and Glories of Old Perugia), we will look at city, memory, and festival in modern Italian life, and the roles these increasingly play in the Italy that tourists experience. Dr. Davis taught Italian history at the Ohio State University. He has published 8 books and several articles on Venice, Rome, pirates, bandits, and popular culture in Medieval and Renaissance Italy.
