About the Event

Leonardo's Fresco- Sala delle Asse- The Room of the Knots

Leonardo da Vinci's The Room of Knots (Sala Delle Asse) stands on par with Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling in terms of artistic merit. However, Leonardo's masterpiece remained concealed for five centuries.

The Room of Knots is situated on the ground floor of Milan's Sforza Castle, the dome ceiling, spanning 2,500 square feet, has faded to a blur of colors. Yet beneath the deterioration lies a hidden treasure, an extravaganza of knots, displaying 16 trees, a multitude of intertwined branches, and 37 gold leaf ropes meandering through a dense array of mulberry leaves.

Bio:

Caroline Cocciardi, a writer and filmmaker, initiated an independent study of Leonardo da Vinci during her time in Rome. Her two decades of research culminated in a significant discovery concerning the renowned Mona Lisa painting.

In her quest through Leonardo's codices for initial sketches of the Mona Lisa Knot, Cocciardi found that the Renaissance genius had devoted his life to crafting complex knot designs. Her art book, "Leonardo's Knots," reveals this under-appreciated aspect of da Vinci's oeuvre, showcasing his affinity for complex knots.
