About the Event
The focus of the book is fiction and non-fiction; books written by Italian authors (in translation); books written by any author, set in Italy, and books about Italy. It’s a large set, but one book generally leads in the direction of the next, so we won’t feel discombobulated. The moderator of the book club is Connie Bertuca, former high school English teacher, lover of books and Italian travel, and perpetual Italian 2 student.
"The format will be structured at first, with assignments for everyone, but as we become more comfortable, we can loosen up. My Zoom philosophy is for all to participate, so other than to ask piercing questions, I won’t be doing most of the talking, I’ll just be smiling and pointing. Once I receive confirmation of your joining, I’ll email you personally with more information, so somewhere, please indicate the best email! Or you can email me directly with that. " ~ Connie
📚 The April Book Selection — A Thread of Grace by Mary Doria Russell. It’s a fictionalized bit of WW2 Italian history - set in Piemonte, it’s a story of Piemontese peasants and partisans who become the reluctant hosts to Jewish refugees, escaping over the Alps.
*the size of the group is limited to 10 members for now given that this is over Zoom. The group is onging, add your name to the waiting list and if people drop off or we feel like we can add more members we will let you know.
