About the Event

Fall 2023 Series: New Horizons | Nuovi orizzonti

With the patronage of the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco

Series Description: The New Horizons film series is a collection of recently released Italian films so new that they have not yet made it to United States theaters or streaming. These films deal with characters at different stages of life leaving home to explore new horizons and diverse parts of Italy, including the Friuli hills, the forests of Sicily, and roadways traversing the peninsula.

Sometimes the grass really is greener when the characters meet their destinations. Sometimes it is the journey itself that is transformative. In all cases, the characters in these films gain new perspectives on life as they set their sights on new horizons.

This is a rare opportunity to see these exclusive films in Santa Cruz. Don't miss out!

The September Film is:  What a Life! (Io Vivo altrove!). Directed by Giuseppe Battiston, 2022 (104 mins)

Sponsored by Bretton, Mohamad, Terrazas, LLP

Trailer

Fausto Perbellini and Fausto Biasutti are middle-aged loners who strike up an unlikely friendship on account of a shared first name. They also share a dream of escaping from Rome’s hustle to live a frugal life in the countryside. When the opportunity arises for the pair to move to a farmhouse in the Friuli hills, they rush to do so, bringing with them their unflappable optimism. However, the reality of living on a farm and ingratiating themselves with the locals proves to be more difficult than expected, putting Perbellini and Biasutti’s friendship to the test. Giuseppe Battiston both directs and stars in this feel-good comedy.
