Based on the extraordinary life of Artemisia Gentileschi, one of the most important female artists of the seventeenth century, Lapierre’s historical novel follows a remarkably talented young painter determined to establish herself in a world dominated by men. Against the backdrop of Baroque Italy, Artemisia confronts scandal, injustice, family conflict, and the restrictions placed upon women while forging an independent identity through her art.
