Naples to New York (Napoli–New York) Directed by Gabriele Salvatores

From Oscar-winning director Gabriele Salvatores (Mediterraneo, I’m Not Scared), Naples to New York is a poignant new drama following two Neapolitan children who escape Italy’s early postwar poverty by boarding a ship across the Atlantic.

In 1949, Naples lies in ruins following the devastation of World War II. Amid the rubble-strewn streets, young Carmine and Celestina try to survive as best they can. One night, the pair find themselves caught aboard a departing ship, becoming unwitting stowaways bound for New York.

After reaching the bustling and unfamiliar metropolis, Carmine and Celestina must quickly adapt to their new surroundings and set out to find Celestina’s older sister, who emigrated years earlier.

Based on a rediscovered screenplay written by Federico Fellini and Tullio Pinelli in the late 1940s, Naples to New York is a compelling and hopeful coming-of-age story about dreams and disillusionment, the search for identity, and the pursuit of a better life.
