At the dawn of the 19th century, near Venice, stands the Sant’Ignazio Institute, a cross between an orphanage, a musical conservatory, and a convent. It is also home to a young woman named Teresa, working as a maid at Sant’Ignazio but with a special gift for listening to the world and transforming it, animating it with music.
As the rest of the institute scrambles in preparation for a visit from Pope Pius VII, Teresa teams up with a close-knit group of girls to secretly compose rebellious, proto-pop music that defies the conventions of the era.
Gloria! is an anachronistic musical about the imagination and talent of the many female composers who have been hidden from the pages of history.
